Sometimes I wonder about my children. And I'm talking about the adult ones. Last year 3 of them got married, all in a month and a half. See what I mean. Two of the weddings were ours to put on. It was crazy.
Some of it's here.
Well, I thought last year was as stressed out as it was ever going to get for us as far as weddings are concerned. Silly me.
We were on a family trip 2 weeks ago when my eldest called and said she was getting married - in less than a week. What the crazy? And it was going to be at our house. We wouldn't be home for several more days. Needless to say we cut it short, got home Sunday night and had the wedding Wednesday. And I have to say we didn't do half bad. Or even three quarters bad. Okay, it really turned out all good. So, that's how we celebrate around here - intensely.
We're so happy for our newest member of the family, Sky. More of their story is
here.
All the fam was here except for Barry, though we got to see him through video chats.
I'll try to post some of what we did and how we put it all together so fast later.
I'm going to turn 50 in Aug. It seems like a milestone to me. Something that should be celebrated, in a bigger way. I have a Provo friend who celebrates her birthday all month long. Every year. (You know who you are.) I love that she does that even though I've never been inclined myself to carry it out that long. Until this year. Until 50.
Fifty is just different. It seems like a transition. And permission. And...

Okay, I'm back. I went and looked for a word to best describe the feeling I was trying to convey. And I found it --- concordant. I've never used that word concordant in my life. No time like the present, since it fits. I feel like fifty is coming into agreement, harmony - concordant. Or concordance. Or concord. Whichever. Whatever, it feels like it's the long process of the coming together to contentment.
I'm content with where I am. Not the content that wants to sit and slide. Not the content that doesn't want improvement or see the need for it. Not the kind that doesn't want a challenge or two. (Okay, maybe only one.) But the kind that recognizes and respects goodwill, harmony, friendship, love, because of pain, contention, loneliness, and heartbreak. In the little scheme of things it's like a personal peace treaty.
But, this really wasn't what I was going to talk about. At least not in such depth. What I wanted to say was that I've been thinking about this for a while and I've come up with a way that I want to celebrate turning 50. But, this has taken up too much space already so I will tell you how tomorrow.
Celebration Suitcase • Old School • eBook @ ShannonsStudio.com
I have finally finished
(see my New Year's Resolution) one of my Celebration Suitcase projects. It's a suitcase that holds decorations for a party - anytime, anywhere, for any reason. This one is themed "Old School" and I show 3 ways it can be set up. I've created an ebook that shows what's inside and how to use it.
It's for sale for $3 here. (I have to support my habit somehow.)

I also show some DIY info so you can see how I did it and then do your own. I was so excited with this idea of stage lights on the inside of the lid. Plug it in and they light up. (I have more creative ideas in the works too.)

My kids thought it was fun when we used it one night for Family Night. Love to celebrate!!!
How would you use the Celebration Suitcase?
Happy New Year! Hope all of your celebrations were enjoyable. Mine was and here's a little of it.
We did a little fondue - chocolate and cheese. Chocolate fondue with pound cake, cookies, strawberries and cheese fondue with bread, vegetables, and meats. It was very good. But, my favorite-
Hot chocolate milk bar. White and Milk chocolates with all the add ons - shaved chocolates, cocoa powder, cinnamon pumpkin spice. Then, raspberry, caramel, and peppermint syrups. With the last additions of marshmallows, peppermint and chocolate chips. Oh, and there was eggnog as well. If you need any ideas, this is the type bar to do again.
If you're curious - all the milk and cheese was from Shatto. The fondue pots were from Pier One Imports. The mugs and cake plate were from World Market. The pitchers were from Target. Candle sticks from second hand stores.
Family, there really isn't anything better. Here's a free download for you, if you'd like. Print is 8.5 x 11

The last of our 3 weddings is this week but I had to do a quick post. The other couple that we're married to (long story) just had their first grandchild. Definitely a time to celebrate.

These aren't the exact ones I ordered but they are the ones that they have available now
A couple of months ago I ordered some baby burp cloths from
Creative Mommas (
my sisters) and had them sent to her. Just a little something for the Gramma-in-Waiting. New Gramma Steward loved them and now gets to use them. I was just wishing I had a reason to get some for me. Which, I just might have reason now, Shhhhhh....
Our New Year's Eve Party Decorations.
I did the "Celebration" sign by wrapping cake cardboards with silver wrapping paper and attaching large black vinyl letters that I purchased from Hobby Lobby. Since I choice a generic word and not a specific holiday I can use it for any occasion. I also used clip on flowers so they can be removed and something else (more holiday related) put in its place. It was super simple.
The bowls on the table are from Color Me Mine. I went and did it while on vacation since Missouri doesn't have one. They are gray with a saying that I often use on the inside lip - "If a things worth doing, it's worth overdoing."
I set out a mini-mirror ball from the Christmas decorations. I got the candelabras from the thrift store and little votive candles that I have on hand. This all came together so easily there wasn't any stress in it. Just like I like it. We had a wonderful time.
Supplies:
Cardboard covered in wrapping paper
6" vinyl adhesive backed letters in black - Hobby Lobby
clip on daisies - Michaels
Mini mirror ball ornament
Votive candles
Thrift store candlesticks
